Max and his guns have defeated the hulking Bad Max and in doing so have opened a gateway of some kind, into which good Max has jumped In the meantime, Doc Hawkins needs to get back to the bridge of the Jim
Dandy to “kick-start the reactors.” Little does he know that as he’s preparing his own scientific experiments, BFB is far from idle. The Boss is spending his time setting up some rather nasty and elaborate bombs around the Jim Dandy. Old Doc Hawkins must find a way to deactivate each and every bomb and save his ship!
Ah yes, Dr. Hawkins, here’s your favorite nemesis, the BFB, who tells you that he’s left a few “presents” for you. And, he’s already activated the first one; which will go off in one minute!
There’s no time to waste. Ready your Atomic Toaster in one hand and the Loaf in the other, to make the Atomic Toast Projectile. This’ll make deactivating the bomb considerably easier than jumping to do it. (See also Doctor’s Orders 2.1.)
Check out the “heart” or hub of the bomb, where the wires are running out. Notice that this hub has four bands, one of them red. Each band has a wire attached to it.
There’s no specific order in which switches must be hit to diffuse the bomb, which means I can’t tell you exactly what to do to avoid an explosion. Instead, you have to examine the hub and follow each wire to its source. It’s a pain in the neck but not hard to do once you get the hang of it.
Follow the wire that’s next to the red band and find the attached button.
Use the Atomic Toaster Projectile to shoot this button—and any buttons that might otherwise be difficult to jump to. The bouncing Atomic Toast is really handy for getting to those out-of-the-way places.
Now return to the bomb hub and see which band has turned red. Follow the wire to the switch and hit it. Repeat this tactic for all four switches to defuse the bomb.
Doctor’s Orders 2.1: Alternative Tactic for the First Bomb If you don’t feel like using the Atomic Toast Projectile to do the trick on the first bomb, you can use your Ladder. Get to each of the red X Ladder pads by jumping with Doc Hawkins. How do you get to the very top pad? That’s easy! Take a look at the picture shown here. There’s a Ladder insertion point on top of one of the pipes. It will take you up there in a hurry.
If you want to deactivate this bomb the old-fashioned way (without using the Atomic Toast), you can use a Ladder to get to the pad on top to hit the button.
But be forewarned—if you use this method, you’ll have to move quickly in order to make it work in the prescribed time limit.
Take the green staircase to the next bomb area. You’ll come to a series of jumps, and they’re not easy to make. Be sure and pause to line them up just right—but don’t linger or you’ll wind up in the abyss.
The platforms you jump across en route to the second bomb will fall into the abyss if you stand on them for too long, so don’t dilly-dally.
BFB is surprised to see you alive, so—in typical cowardly fashion—he sets the next bomb and runs off.
Use the Ladder on this pad to get up to the buttons. There are four, and you’ll have to climb up and hit each one.
To find out which button is the next one in the sequence, you have to use your Ladder to hop down and back up to the platform, back and forth from the hub—at least three times.
Around this corner you find Kermit (the giant Venus Fly Trap) being harassed by several Poopsie’s. He asks for your help, but in your current state you can’t do it. So Kermit gives you Plutonium! Get ready for a transformation!
Drink a dose of Plutonium to turn yourself into Mr. Hyde. Then go kick the stuffing out of those Poopsie’s. This is your chance to use some real muscle on these ugly, mocking villains!
Continue to move along after the BFB. Follow him down this long corridor, which leads to a Teleporter. Hop on, Doc.
First, have a look at the hub and see which wire you need to follow. Then start moving.
If you need to go up, there are several Ladder locations that you can use to help you get up higher in the chamber.
You’re trying to get to these three buttons up on the central platform. You’ll need to use your Ladder several times to get up here; follow the plankway that spirals up to get to the platform.
The buttons on the central platform have attached wires; follow each wire to find out which one is the one you need to hit.
Doctor’s Orders 2.3: Disarming the Bombs Disarming the bombs in Doc Hawkins’s Level 6 takes a simple act of detection. No big mystery. You simply look at the hub and see which band is glowing red. It will have a wire attached to it, which leads you right to the next wire/switch that must be hit. There’s no trick to this—you simply follow the wires for the bands as they turn red, and you’ll move in perfect order every time!
Look for the red band; it tells you which wire to follow to find the next switch that must be pushed.
This is the second-to-last button you must hit. Steady on, Doc. You’re almost there.
Hitting this button finally disables the bomb. Congratulations!
Follow this hallway to the next Teleport chamber, and hop in to get to the final bomb in this level.
You have eight minutes to put this last bomb out of commission, so you have to be accurate but you don’t have to rush.
Be sure to have your Lighter with you so that you can follow the cords. Parts of this sector are very dark.
Work quickly and efficiently, but again, don’t panic. There’s time. The key is to be methodical, moving from the hub to each switch with minimal hesitation.
If you get confused about which button/switch to push next, use the Lighter to help you see exactly where all the wires lead.
This switch can be hit with a Toast Projectile from the Atomic Toaster. A handy weapon, indeed!
When you finally hit the last switch—whichever one it is—you’ll deactivate the last bomb and prompt a rematch with BFB.
As you enter the rematch with BFB, you’ll notice that he’s using his blue shield. To disable the shield you’ll have to hit him three times as Mr. Hyde. Time for another shot of Plutonium!
Climb these boxes to get up to BFB’s level. Then, when he gets close enough, you can leap on him and slap him around a little.
After this skirmish you’ll fall to the ground and return to your Doc Hawkins identity, but fortunately there’s another flask of Plutonium waiting for you here.
When fighting the BFB at this level, your chief weapon is the Plutonium given to you by Kermit. Its express purpose is to transform you into the ominous Mr. Hyde to overcome the BFB’s advanced shield, so that your Atomic Toaster can finish the job. You'll need to hit the BFB on three separate occasions, but you won't have enough Plutonium to do the job three times. Not to worry—a pitcher of Plutonium reappears whenever you run out, so you can keep going back for more.
You’re not done with those boxes yet. Twice more, you have to climb ‘em, jump on BFB, and take out his shield to finally render him mortal.
Now use the Atomic Toaster Projectile again to finish off the BFB. Be wary, though. He won’t succumb easily and he’ll be attacking you all the while.
Keep moving and firing rapidly with the Atomic Toaster to avoid taking major damage from the BFB.
Be very aggressive with the bouncing Toast and you’ll put the BFB out of commission. Now his brains are available for Doc Hawkins to put to good use!
